BACKGROUND
The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Commission) has been following the developments in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with concern. On 4 November 2020, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) attacked the Northern Command of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces. This was followed by a military counter attack by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia against the TPLF on the same day.
RETRACTION AND PUBLIC APOLOGY
Please note that following the publication of the initial Background (see left) on June 17, 2021, the attention of the Commission was drawn to a factual error relating to the context of the conflict in the Tigray region. The Background has since been edited to remove the factual inaccuracy. The Commission extends its unreserved apologies to concerned persons.
